Gar Cartier On Riding a Fat Boy Harley

Gar Cartier loves riding a fat boy Harley. He has owned other Harleys (of course) but none compare to the Fat Boy.

The “Fat” in Fat Boy, by the way, does not refer to its ability to carry heavy riders. Rather, its name refers to its larger features such as fat forks, wide tires, and 5-gallon gas tank. These features enable Gar Cartier, and other riders, to ride long distances without suffering discomfort. The Fat Boy even has a 96-cubic inch engine, giving it lots of power.

The Fat Boy

Harley Davidson motorcycles have been around since 1901. Over the years, Harley has unveiled many different models. However, the Fat Boy, introduced in 1990, is the best one that Gar Cartier has ever ridden. Gar is not alone in this feeling, by the way. After all, when Harley introduced the Fat Boy, it became an immediate best seller. In fact, fans of the early Harley Fat Boys called them “the Gray Ghosts” because this was the only color in which they were manufactured.

Riding a fat boy is comfortable because of its wide seat (which can easily seat two people). Consequently, cross country trips with your significant other is a breeze!

Since 1990, Harley has made a lot of changes in the Fat Boy. In 2005, for instance, Harley introduced a Fat Boy that has a smaller engine—88-cubic inches—than the original. Still…this change did not adversely affect the rider’s comfort level during cross country trips. (This is due to its hidden set of twin shocks). But no matter the changes, the Fat Boy has remained a top seller for Harley.

Gar Cartier Harley’s not hard to recognize.

By the way…a Harley Fat Boy is not hard to recognize. Its design, after all, has not changed much since it was first produced. It is a softail bike that has a wide-bodied fuel tank, white chrome wheels, and thick front fork.

Gar Cartier also loves the extras that can be purchased for the Fat Boy. He particularly loves the saddle bags—that can be made of either leather or fiberglass—that come custom made for the Fat Boy. Another great feature that Gar Cartier has purchased is a trunk—yes, a trunk—that attaches to the rear fender. This trunk is great for storing items during a cross country trip. There are also many cosmetic features that Gar Cartier has purchased to spiff up the appearance of his bike (such as highway pegs and foot pegs).

Gar Cartier with Some Cautions

The Harley Fat boy is a big and heavy bike—680 pounds even before you add gasoline or any extra features. Therefore, your feet may not be able to touch the ground (depending upon your height). In this case, Gar Cartier recommends that you become an experienced bike rider before purchasing a Harley Fat Boy.

But nothing will keep him from riding his beloved Harley Fat Boy. In fact, he has been known to ride it in almost any weather condition, night and day. There’s nothing like it explains Gar Cartier!
